P.C.C.M. 64 Part 2 Elkhart to Chicago


Greetings and Welcome to Part 2 of the P.C.C.M. 64 Series. Here we find a trio of Penn Central locomotives headed west towards Chicago. Much of this train originated in Selkirk, N.Y. With some stops along the way. Let's see what is headed to Chicago and points west.


Leading our trio of Elephant style locomotives is Penn Central GP35 #2277


Running the traditional Pennsy long hood forward is PC #5706. It has been recently released from the paint shop sporting its new PC paint scheme.


Bringing up the rear of our locomotive trio is PC #1878. The former Rio Grande unit sports a new "Black Dip" paint scheme.


From the N.Y.C.T.L. we have a Pennsy boxcar loaded with bulk hardware from American Hardware and Supply. It's headed to Barton Manufacturing in Denver.


First car from the K.P.D., is this Burlington gondola loaded with scrap aluminum for Ball Container in Golden, Colorado. It will become beer and soda cans for recycle minded customers.


This SP 40ft boxcar is loaded with bags of flour for the Star Bread Company in Denver. It's being sent from Blue Ribbon Flour on the K.P.D.


A Boston & Maine boxcar from Peerless Appliances loaded with repair parts for Lefty Martin Appliances in Denver, Colorado.


Here's a shot of Lefty's place on Colorado Boulevard in the 1990's. I've kept the wife's appliances running strong with repair parts from Lefty's Place.


This Rock Island boxcar is loaded with TV's from Zenith on the Mayfield Branch. It is also headed to Lefty Martin TV and Appliance in Denver, Colorado.

A P&LE boxcar loaded with furniture for the West Coast. That 10ft door will make unloading easy.


An empty N&W hopper making its way to the Southern Illinois coal mines.


This Illinois Central boxcar is loaded with tractor parts. It's headed to a supply house in Iowa.


This Rock Island hopper is headed to the Steel Mills located along the shores of Lake Michigan


This OC&E boxcar is returning empty to home rails after making a lumber products delivery.


This Rio Grande boxcar is returning to Golden, Colorado for more aluminum beverage cans.


This Santa Fe boxcar is loaded full of glass long neck bottles for Tivoli Brewery in Denver, CO.


This Penn Central gondola is headed for a scrap dealer in the Chicago area.


This former New Haven, now PC boxcar is loaded with empty tin cans headed to the West Coast


Bringing up the rear is this former Lehigh Valley caboose in its new PC paint scheme.

P.C.C.M. 64 From Elkhart over the Hurdle.



Greetings and welcome to the out West edition of P.C.C.M. 64. We are following a recently departed general mixed freight rolling across rural Ohio. It just left the classification yard in Elkhart, Indiana. Lets follow this train and its mixed content of freight headed to eastern destinations.


Leading our train is a former Pennsy SD35. Penn Central #6002 is using its 2500 horsepower to keep the train rolling east to Selkirk and beyond.


Next up is Penn Central GP40 #3075. It has 3000 horsepower to add to the power mix.


Bringing up the rear of this all EMD line up is GP38 #2010


Our first freight load is this Grand Trunk boxcar with electric motors. It's being sent from Wazee Electric in Denver to Peerless Appliances on the K.P.D.


Next in line is this empty GERN hopper heading to the plant in West Mill, New York.


One more stop in West Mill, is this Canadian National boxcar loaded with rolled cardboard for the Canton Box company. It was supplied by the Rockmont Company in Denver.


Here's a shot of the Rockmont envelope division in South Denver, during the 1960's. The home of "Mailwell" Envelopes.


Scheduled to make the full "Selkirk" Hurdle, is this PFE reefer loaded with produce from the Denargo Produce Market in Denver, Colorado. It's headed to Terminal Cold Storage in Empire City.


Also headed to Terminal Cold Storage is this BRMX reefer loaded with delicious meats. It was sent from the Meat Packing Row at the Denver Union Stockyards.


This WP boxcar is loaded with bags of sugar from the Great Western sugar plant in Longmont, CO. It's headed to the Hostess Plant in Empire City, New York.


This GN boxcar has a load of paint from DuPont in Denver for American Hardware Supply in Bedford Park NY. Lots of happy colors.


A tank car carrying chemicals for the auto industry from Celanese Chemicals.


A carload of "Red Seal" potato chips for eastern markets.


A carload of Mattel toys headed from California to eastern distribution centers.


A carload of scrap metal being sent from the Chicagoland area to a Hudson River Steel Mill.



An empty P&LE boxcar and Standard tank car going back for more goods.


A carload of empty Pepsi bottles going to the secret Georgia Pepsi plant, located in Hoschton, GA.


A carload of truck belts and hoses from Gates Rubber Plant. Headed to eastern customers.

Bringing up the rear is a former Southern caboose, wearing its new PC paint and lettering.
