P.C.C.M. 50D Departure from Galesburg

Greetings and welcome to P.C.C.M 50D. Our train has arrived from Denver at the Burlington classification yard in Galesburg, Illinois. Here we see our locomotive lash up.

Leading the consist is U28B #109. This is a custom painted Athearn Blue Box unit from the 1990's.

Next in line is Colorado & Southern SD-40 #882. Parent road Burlington is testing the new units for a possible future purchase. SD-40 #882 is a first run Athearn RTR unit.

The final unit in our lash up from Denver is C&S SD-40 #885. The Colorado and Southern uses the SD-40's in heavy tonnage coal and iron trains. The Burlington is always on the quest for reliable high horsepower units. This unit is a second run Athearn RTR SD-40.

Now we'll look at the first block of cars that departed Denver, with a final destination at Penn Central's Perlman Yard in Selkirk, New York.

Here we see Penn Central 272747 loaded with belts and hoses from Gates Rubber Company in Denver. It will be joining sister car PC 272742 in auto part service for the auto industry in New York.

Penn Central #516753 is returning empty after delivering a load rolled steel to the West Coast. It will soon be loaded with some more steel products to keep the engine of industry running.

Pennsy 40ft boxcar #611247 is loaded with new "Space Age" aluminum beverage containers from Ball container in Golden, CO.

Penn Central 40ft Hi-Cube 273744 is loaded with auto belts and hoses from Gates Rubber Company.

Santa Fe Mechanical Reefer #2248 is being sent East loaded full of produce. The produce brokers are still finding a buyer for its refrigerator fresh contents. Lots of hungry East Coast customers to feed.

New Haven boxcar #39288 is returning empty to East Coast. It was originally loaded full of toys from a famous Pawtucket, Rhode Island toy maker. Looks like it got a new door somewhere in it's journey West. We'll see if the shop crews notice the change. Might end up with a boxcar red or PC green door before the next trip to the West Coast.

Penn Central #892011 is loaded full of high country barley from the St. Vrain growers COOP in Lyons, Colorado. Just in time for those Winterfest brews being made for the holidays.

Penn Central #886759 is loaded with Mile High Hops also from the St. Vrain growers COOP. High altitude hops add a distinct flavor to any brewed beverage. Very popular this time of year.

Santa Fe Plug Door boxcar #55359 is loaded with Mexican themed food products from Casa Bonita food distributors. Casa Bonita products are quite popular with the residents of South Park, Colorado.

Milwaukee Road Plug Door Boxcar #56542 is loaded with paper products produced in the Pacific Northwest. Headed to markets on the East Coast.

Burlington single door boxcar #22163 is loaded full of glass canning containers from Ball Container.

Finally the last car of the block is a 50ft Rio Grande boxcar loaded full of Tivoli Beer for thirsty East Coast beer drinkers. This block of cars will be added to a Pool Power train headed to the Penn Central classification yard in Elkhart, Indiana. From there it will routed to Perlman Yard in Selkirk, NY. Thanks for reading!

  1. Nice start to your P.C.C.M. 50! Some of those cars bring back some cool memories of my Athearn BB days. I may have to go look to see what I have. I do know that famous toy maker that is still up in Rhode Island to this day! Hasbro Toys is legendary!

  2. Thank you Neal!!! That famous toy maker needs to send a reefer full of Maine potatoes to go with their popular potato dressing game. I really like the old Athearn Blue Box equipment. I'm too clumsy and break the details off the RTR stuff. They are fun to paint and customize as well.

    1. Thank you very much John! I’m glad to be part of PCCM 50 and get some action rolling across the middle of the country. It’s exciting to have another coast to coast PCCM in action.

  4. Nice work Brian! The Burlington Route locos are so good looking! Great selection of rolling stock. I wish I had a dozen PC covered hoppers like #892011. Cool to see more PC Hi Cubes!

    1. Thank you Ralph!!! I think it's so cool the Burlington and Penn Central had a pool arrangement with their locomotives. It's like the best of both worlds. I agree on the PC covered hoppers, they're an iconic fixture. Both 892011 and the smooth side Hi-Cube were painted with Montana Gold "Malachite". Thanks for letting me know about their fine brand of paints.
