Rocky Mountain Train Show 3/3/18

Greetings and Welcome to the second segment of the Rocky Mountain Train Show. Quite the attendance for the show this year. Probably the largest crowd in the history of the show. Despite my claims of keeping a low profile with the purchasing and shopping at the show. Lots of great deals were to be found. More on that for a later post. We'll concentrate on the some of the attractions and show sponsors for this post. We'll begin with some of the manufacturers displays.

First stop Athearn and Roundhouse Trains.

Athearn showed off some of their new HO units for 2018. Rio Grande SD39 and SD40T-2. CNW SD50 and a CSX SD38-2.

Some more HO scale eye candy!

Lionel had a nice display with lots of new products. Some nice stuff for Ed and Larry to check out. I'm not sure on the prototype accuracy on the BNSF RS3. Still looked like a nice locomotive.

Mike's Train House had a nice booth with O and HO scale offerings.

This O scale Rio Grande SD70ACe caught my eye.

Bachmann displayed some of their new HO and On3 offerings.

I'll be honest, the Bachmann offerings fell a little flat this year. Maybe there will be additional releases to round out the selection for 2018.

Lots of great Modular Layout offerings to enjoy. This one is set in the rural stretches of Northeastern Colorado. Here's a CB&Q mixed freight rolling through the countryside.

A nice representation of the numerous feeder lots that dot the High Plains of Eastern Colorado.

Lego Model Railroading was well represented at the show.

This looks like the perfect speed for a Senior Engineer for life and his Grandson. 😃

More coverage on the show for the next segment, thanks for reading!!!

  2. Thanks Neal!!! I thought the CSX SD38-2 might catch your eye. I'll see if I can get more information on it and the other releases this year.

  3. Looks like the major manufacturers were well represented. It is always nice to see what is coming down the pike. Wish we had a show like that within driving distance. Hope you found some treasures.

    1. I’m surprised they don’t have a big show like this in Atlanta. I was able to stock up on some future projects. I might need to sub contract to the N.Y.C.T.L. Patti-O crew to get them done before the turn of the Century. 😉

  4. Nice report on the train show with good photos. The UP / Rio Grande heritage unit is very eye catching! The weathered and patched Rio Grande Geep in photo#3 was also eye catching. A very enjoyable look at what the manufacturers are coming out with. Well Done!

    1. Thanks Sir John!!! It’s always fun check out the new stuff that’s out. The patched out Rio Grande unit is from the movie Switchback. With everyone’s favorite Marine turned actor, R. Lee Emery. Here’s the information on the SD39’s used in the movie https://www.google.com/amp/s/cinetrains.wordpress.com/2012/01/22/terror-in-the-rockies-rare-emd-locomotives-in-switchback/amp/ Looks I may have to save up and get one on the roster 😉

  5. Looks like a great show! I really liked the pic of the modular layout with that cattle pen! St. Paul has hosted the Great American Train Show but I've never attended. I prefer the twice a year big flea markets at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. Thanks for the report!

    1. Thanks Ralph!!!! Big shows like this one and The Great American Train Show are a great way to promote the hobby to the general public. Lots of kids and families. I agree, the swap meets are where the great deals are to be found. Sounds like the swap meets at your Fairgrounds is the place to find all kinds of good stuff for model railroaders.
